Article on Zlife by Zumba 2016
“Zumba has been a part of my life’s journey since it was introduced to me in 2007. I began teaching in 2009 and lost a total of 45 pounds and 8 pant sizes. Unfortunately, marital problems led me to being a single mom with six kids, ranging from 3 years of age to 19. Of course it’s difficult, but I want women to know that no matter how hard things get in life, follow your dreams and never give up on yourself.
I have continued to teach with purpose, and have taken my license to teach Zumba to the next level by becoming ACE certified and also getting licensed to teach Zumba Step. I do this because, as a mother and a fitness instructor, I want to be a role model.
I’ve been inspired by my students and the other instructors I’ve met in the Zumba community and I’ve begun to write songs with the mission and goal to share my passion and help others find their light.
This may not be a story of tragedy, but it’s my story of being a single mom trying her best to continue with life, lose weight, help inspire others to get up and dance, and be who God wants us to be – a light in the darkness. I never want to let anybody discourage me from that.”
